St. Katharine Drexel has received a $10,000 grant from Anoka County for organic waste & recycling! At no cost to the parish, we have received containers for organic waste, recycling, and garbage, bags, and compostable plates, bowls, cups, & cutlery. There will be posters identifying what goes in each container. Help us reduce the amount of waste going into the garbage by placing all organic material and recycling material in the appropriate container.
A quick rule to follow is "anything that has ever been alive is organic and compostable." That includes ALL FOOD WASTE, paper towels, hand towels, napkins, and facial tissues. For example, most everything we use for hospitality (except perhaps a goldfish package) would be compostable, and go into the "organics" bins!
There will be educational + instructional posters up, but we will need the SKD community to pay special attention to this new routine. This is a great opportunity for our community to change how we impact the world around us!
Many thanks to the Social Justice Committee for initiating these efforts.
