SPOTLIGHT ON STEWARDSHIP:
Vivian and Wayne Jeffrey
An Impressive List: If you have paid a visit to St. Katharine Drexel, chances are you have encountered Wayne or Vivian Jeffrey! The list of ministries they have been involved in include: hospitality, funeral luncheon, KC’s, social justice, Eucharistic ministers, lectors, office help, family promise, St. Mary’s mission, Anoka Christmas Committee, Beer Brats and Bingo, Oktoberfest, Land O’ Lakes Choir Boys Silent Auction, Eucharistic for the Homebound and for Arbor Oaks Assisted Living .
Time Given=Friends Received These ministries not only fulfil important needs of others, they also nurture the ministers themselves. It gives Wayne and Vivian joy to do things for our SKD family and the greater community. They say by getting involved, you get the opportunity to meet more people than by just attending mass. The Jeffreys have made many friends in the parish through their involvement with volunteering. They remind us that we need community to grow our faith and it is important to be a part of these ministries because all of us are part of the body of Christ and this is one way to show it.
A Look Back… Wayne and Vivian have been members of St. Katharine Drexel since the beginning. They fondly remember doing hospitality at our original space, Pact Charter School. Back in those days, when using someone else’s space, they remember having to bring so many things along with them because they were not stored on location there! The Jeffreys also have great memories from the funeral luncheons they have served at over the years. They note that when people are grieving, food and hospitality help a little bit with the sadness; it allows people to share time, memories and a meal together.
Who Said That!? A favorite quote and scripture from Wayne and Vivian include:
“You can’t always get what you want.” Mick Jagger
“As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.”
Speaking of Mick Jagger…. Back in his heyday, Wayne was a rock ‘n roller! He was in a band from the late 60’s through the early 70’s. (And yes, we have no doubt that he still has the moves like Jagger!)
Parlez-vous Francais? Vivian was born in France, immigrated to the USA in 1955 at age 5 and speaks multiple languages. (Her favorite movie is the Lion King…in both English and French. Hakuna Matata!)
