Join together with other faithful people in a local pilgrimage to pray for and learn about the effects of the Residential Boarding Schools for American Indians. Walking Together will include a watch fire prayer vigil from 6 p.m. Friday, September 30 to 6 a.m. on October 1 at Gichitwaa Kateri. Learn about the Church’s history with American Indians and boarding Schools. The US Government and Christian churches were involved in forced assimilation of American Indians. The Catholic Church ran several of these schools, including here in Minnesota.
At 9 a.m., the pilgrimage walk will begin at the Basilica of Saint Mary and conclude at Cristo Rey High School (about 2.5 miles). There, a speaker will address the pilgrims and Archbishop Bernard Hebda will lead the pilgrims in prayer. The event will conclude with a shared meal from Pow Wow Grounds and time in fellowship. A goodwill offering will be accepted. Contact Deacon Randy, [email protected] for more information or if you are interested in carpooling to attend. Registration is required, so contact Deacon Randy and he will get you registered.
